In Loving Memory of Samson
A Full Medical Timeline, Gratitude, and Farewell
Samson was our guardian, our companion, our quiet strength. Lion‑hearted and gentle, he stayed with us through every phase of his illness, and we want to share his full journey — not to ask for anything, but to honor his life, express our gratitude, and share what we learned so others may protect their own beloved animals.
Full Medical Timeline
August 2025 – Sudden Onset of Symptoms
Samson began vomiting daily without prior symptoms. His appetite decreased, and bouts of nausea and diarrhea followed. Despite being previously strong and healthy, he seemed to lose vitality rapidly.
Animal Samaritans – Indio
(August 2025)
We rushed Samson to Animal Samaritans, where an X-ray was taken to rule out intestinal blockage. While no clear obstruction was found, we were told his intestines looked inflamed. Unfortunately, no further diagnostics were recommended.
Upon investigation, we discovered Samson had likely ingested Pothos (Devil’s Ivy)—a common houseplant highly toxic to cats, known to cause irritation to the GI tract. This became the suspected cause of his distress.
Holistic Care – Marina’s Mobile Vet, Yucca Valley
(September–October 2025)
We turned to Dr. Rachel, a holistic vet who treated Samson with compassion and non-invasive care. A blood panel was done—mild liver strain was present, but nothing alarming. She prescribed:
- Digestive enzymes
- Liver detox support
- Thymax
- Probiotics
- A soft, low-fat cooked food diet
For a time, Samson improved. He ate with joy again. His energy returned. We believed he was healing.
VCA Yucca Valley – Dr. Megan
(November 2025)
The Bloodwork was re evaluated from the prior test now revealed elevated bilirubin and ALP enzymes, markers of liver strain or inflammation. Probiotics and prebiotics were prescribed—but we were told we’d need a cardiologist and ultrasound for further diagnostics, and prescriptions. Financially these tests were out of reach at the time.
His weight continued to drop, and his appetite again became inconsistent. He became weak and brittle.
Vetster Remote Vets
(Early December 2025)
We tried to get help online. Samson’s charts were reviewed, and antibiotics were prescribed. But the reaction was immediate—he became withdrawn and weak.
It became clear:
- His body wasn’t absorbing nutrients
- Medications were too harsh
- The issue was internal, systemic, and progressing fast
Rescue Support – Mojave Felines Cat Rescue
(December 2025)
As we searched desperately for answers, Chabela of Mojave Felines Cat Rescue offered guidance, herbal insight, emotional support, technical and clinical guidance and compassion. Samson was treated not as a case, but as a soul.
Despite everything, he still purred. He still stayed close. He was still fighting.
Final Emergency – Christmas Eve
(December 24, 2025)
On Christmas Eve, Samson was taken to the emergency hospital in Upland. He could no longer eat much, he was dehydrated and could not stand properly, or retain fluids. We held him tight and close the whole way to the vet in one of the largest storms to hit California.
An unnamed donor, an angel we will never forget, made it possible for us to seek emergency care that day. We were hoping for a miricle. We wanted the doctors to tell us they could save him and he could be treated.
Advanced diagnostics revealed the truth:
An aggressive cancerous mass in his stomach, consistent with gastrointestinal lymphoma, had developed — likely growing silently beneath months of inflammation and malabsorption.
There was nothing left that could save him.
That night, we held Samson in our arms. He was calm. He was loved. He passed gently, surrounded by the people he trusted most.
We realized that the miracle was that he was not going to suffer.
What We Learned — For Other Furbaby Guardians
We share these lessons in Samson’s honor:
- Remove all toxic plants from homes with cats — including Pothos.
- Do not constantly feed caned foods. Even if they love them, try to ween them off and feed fresh cooked foods.
- Bloodwork trends matter more than single results. Mild elevations can signal serious disease developing.
- Persistent GI symptoms deserve deeper diagnostics. X‑rays do not reveal everything. Ultrasound and biopsies matter.
- Holistic care is powerful, but must be paired with advanced diagnostics when symptoms persist.
- Malabsorption and weight loss are major red flags. If food intake continues but weight declines, PUSH for answers.
- Trust your intuition. You know your animal better than anyone.
Gratitude
We are endlessly grateful to every person who supported Samson — through advice, care, prayers, donations, messages, or presence.
Thank you to:
Chabela at Mojave Felines Cat Rescue
The anonymous donor who made our final emergency visit possible
Your compassion mattered more than you know.
✨ Farewell to Samson
Thank you for standing by us through this.
Thank you for every share, prayer, dollar, and kind word. We see them all. And we are so very grateful!!
Samson the Lion-Hearted - In Memory And Myth - Now has walked over the rainbow bridge on Christmas Eve.
A Tale Retold
Samson was strength.
Not in brute force, but in the silent resilience of a guardian spirit.
A little lion with eyes that saw beyond the veil,
who held his ground through every storm,
who stood for us, even when his body grew thin and weary.
In ancient tales, Delilah took the hair of Samson and stole his might. But our Samson’s strength was never stolen.
It was encouraged and nurtured.
Freely, courageously transmuted in his final act of love.
We did not shear his hair to take his power.
We let him rest. We let him go.
His breath soft, his body relaxed, his eyes at peace.
And only after he stepped into the cosmic winds,
did we take a lock of his golden fur.
Not to possess, but to remember.
To carry the echo of his bravery in our palms
So that his strength could live on, passing that strength to us.
In his final hour he was honored.
Witnessed.
Loved.
And through that love, he became more than a tale of might undone. He became light unbound.
Now, Samson shines in the Mojave stars. His spirit written into the physics of memory, his courage spiraling in photons,
his essence folded into the quantum song of the cosmos.
And when we hold that lock of golden fur,
We don’t hold his death.
We hold his life!
With Endless Gratitude,
Cyrina, Todd & Samson
