Please help save my sweet dog Sammy — my best friend and soulmate.
Two weeks ago, I brought Sammy to the emergency clinic with what appeared to be kidney failure. The vet we saw beforehand gave me devastating news: he didn’t believe she would survive the next 48 hours and offered no treatment. But after receiving care from a knowledgeable and compassionate doctor at the emergency clinic, Sammy bounced back and showed us she wasn’t ready to give up. A few days later, she received a full day of fluid therapy, which helped her kidneys flush out toxins and significantly improved her kidney values.
That week, I truly believed I was going to lose Sammy and spent five days grieving. Right now, her condition is more or less stable. She has a great appetite, wags her tail, follows me everywhere like she used to, and generously gives her kisses. But she is still facing advanced kidney disease and needs medication, prescription food, subcutaneous fluids several times a week, frequent bloodwork, and regular vet visits.
I’m deeply grateful for every single day I get to spend with her. Whether we have days, weeks, or months ahead of us, each moment is a gift I don’t take for granted. For 16 beautiful years, Sammy has been my constant source of love and comfort. She’s been my emotional rock through some of life’s most difficult seasons — a painful divorce, the loss of my grandmother and mother, stressful jobs, and so many personal challenges I’ve only been able to face with Sammy by my side. The love I feel for her — and receive from her — is immeasurable. I know that one day I’ll have to let her go. But right now, she’s still here, bringing me joy and comfort every single day.
Her ongoing medical care comes with many expenses — which feel like a small price to pay for her life — but I’m spending money I simply don’t have, and I worry about how I’ll manage as her care continues. We’ve been trying to give her subcutaneous fluids at home, but unfortunately, she gets too scared and won’t tolerate it. As a result, we have to take her to the vet several times a week for this procedure. These treatments are what keep her alive and feeling well.
Sammy’s improvement was nothing short of a miracle, and I’ve been blessed to meet so many miracle workers along the way, from the emergency vet to every compassionate staff member who cared for her. Perhaps we haven’t used up all our miracle credits just yet, and with your help, we’ll be able to raise the funds to support her ongoing care. Every dollar helps, and every contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world as we work to cover her medical bills and continued treatments.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading to the end. So much love from Sammy and me. ❤️
