Help Save Sage: Kristina's Beloved Companion

My name is Kristina, and in 2020, during the challenging times of the pandemic, my dad, Jack, brought home my beloved dog Sage. She wasn't just any dog — she was a rescue, found by the Pasadena Humane Society, abandoned with a broken leg. My dad and I decided to take her in, and from that moment, Sage and I became inseparable. She quickly became my best friend, my shadow; filling my days with joy and companionship, and following me everywhere.

When I moved to Texas in 2023, Sage came with me. Together we moved into my first apartment. She has been more than just a furry roommate; she's been my source of comfort and peace during times of uncertainty. Since adopting her, Sage has been by my side through every big moment, including my engagement to my beloved fiance, Joey.

Unfortunately, recently she was diagnosed with an intense and rare bacterial infection that has made it really difficult for her to breath. She's done two Thoracentesis procedures (removing fluid from around the lungs), but in order to treat her completely and to stop the fluid from collapsing her lungs, Sage requires specialized treatment. It's possible she might even need surgery to recover fully.

Being engaged and planning our wedding was supposed to be one of the most joyous and exciting times in our lives. It's been a time filled with dreams of our future together and creating memories as a family of 3 that will last a lifetime. However, with Sage's unexpected illness and the mounting veterinary bills, what should be a happy time has been heavily overshadowed with worry and sadness. Instead of solely focusing on our upcoming union, our hearts are heavy with concern for Sage's health and the drowning costs of it all. We want nothing more than for her to be with us, healthy and happy, as we start this new chapter in our lives, and hope to not have to make the heartbreaking decision to put her down to avoid going into debt. She is only 6 years old and has so much more life to live.

Sage is more than just a pet; she's a cherished member of our family. Her happiness and health are our top priorities, and the thought of losing her is breaking our hearts. We are reaching out for help because we want to give Sage every chance she deserves to live a long, healthy life filled with the love she brings to ours. Sage was also my dad's dog too for a while, and I know he shares in our pain for what we are going through.
