I am Paula Davis-Smith, owner of Safari Jerk House. I am a mother of three beautiful children, and I have worked hard to build a legacy for my family so they will never have to struggle the way I did. I have always tried to support others on GoFundMe whenever I could, so it feels strange to now be in a position where I have to ask for help. But sometimes, life humbles us, and we have to lean on our community. Right now, I need your support more than ever to keep Safari Jerk House alive. This is my testimony, a story of faith, resilience, and trusting God even when the road gets tough

For over ten years, Safari Jerk House has been a staple on Jamaica Avenue, serving up the rich, authentic flavors of Jamaican cuisine to our beloved community. We have poured our hearts and souls into this restaurant, making it more than just a place to eat; it’s a gathering spot, a taste of home, and a symbol of resilience and passion. Right after COVID, the owner sold the building, to which we got a new landlord, and he forced us out. We were able to open a new location to continue doing what we love: serving our community with good food and warm hospitality. However, despite our best efforts, we are now struggling to keep our doors open. The financial burden has become overwhelming, and after exhausting every possible option, we are faced with the heartbreaking reality of possibly closing down. This restaurant is not just my business—it is my livelihood, my dream, and the way I provide for my three children. It pains me to say this, but without it, I feel like I am failing them.

We have prayed over this decision countless times, sought every solution we could think of, and continued pushing forward despite the challenges. But as bills pile up and our resources shrink, we are running out of options. That’s why we are reaching out to our community, the very people who have supported us for years, to ask for help. We initially set a goal of $200,000 to help us recover and sustain the restaurant, but in all honesty, we humbly ask you to give whatever your heart leads you to give.

No amount is too small, and every bit of support means the world to us. We have nothing but faith in our community and God to help us bring Safari Jerk House back to life.
