Hi, my name is Jen, and I’m reaching out because my sweet dog, Sadie, is fighting for her life.
On Thursday, Sadie suddenly stopped eating and became lethargic. By Friday morning, I rushed her to the vet, where tests revealed she had severe anemia. Within hours, things escalated, and Sadie had to be quickly transported to Bay State Veterinary Emergency and I was told she had IMHA (Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia)—a rare, life-threatening autoimmune disease. The vet told me I had two choices: start emergency treatment, which included an immediate blood transfusion, high-dose steroids, and 24/7 monitoring—or say goodbye to her that night.
There was no hesitation. I chose to fight for her.
Sadie was admitted to the veterinary hospital, and we’ve already spent $6640 for her initial care and transfusion. She’s been in critical care for over 48 hours, and the costs are continuing to climb—each additional day of hospitalization is another $1,000–$1,500, not including the long-term medications, bloodwork, and follow-up visits she’ll need to survive. She needs to be seen a minimum of every 2-3 days for follow up care to check her RBC levels upon discharge. Without this aggressive level of care, she will die.
I used most of the money I had saved for my own necessary dental implants because saving Sadie’s life was the only thing that mattered. Now I’m worried that I won’t be able to keep up with her care if she needs more transfusions and the extended treatment she needs for a minimum of the next 6 months.
Sadie is the sweetest, most loyal dog you could ever meet. She’s only 7 and still has so much life and love left to give. She's a classic Corgi, a low-to-the-ground loaf with a stubborn streak and the world’s biggest heart. She nudges her head under my knee for pets, taps us gently with her paw when she wants love, and then flops over like a drama queen for a belly rub. She smiles when she’s happy. She has those big brown eyes that just melt you. She shadows me from room to room like it’s her full-time job. She was deemed the princess of the hospital and has staff hand feeding her warmed chicken. She would immediately win you over. I’m asking for any help you can give—whether that’s $5, $50, or simply sharing this page. Every little bit and every share makes a huge difference in giving her a fighting chance.
Thank you for reading Sadie’s story and for any kindness you can offer.
With love and gratitude,
Jen and family
