Ruby was supposed to be euthanized. Before I ever met her, she had already been returned to the shelter three times. She had a history—labeled aggressive, difficult, too much for anyone to handle. At one point, she had even mauled a cat. By every standard, she was a dog people had given up on.
The day I met Ruby, I didn’t know any of that. All I knew was what happened in that first moment. She walked up to me… and instead of reacting with fear or aggression, she gently lifted her paw—like an olive branch. Like she was saying, “I’m willing… if you are.” That was our beginning. Later, when I met with animal control and learned her full story, I realized just how close she had come to the end. But something about her—something in that moment—changed everything for me.
Ruby didn’t just get a second chance. She became the reason I stepped into dog training. Because of her, I learned how to understand dogs that others had written off. I’ve been able to help families keep their dogs instead of losing them. I’ve worked with dogs that remind me of her—misunderstood, but not beyond hope. Ruby didn’t just change my life. She’s helped change the lives of so many others through the work she inspired.
And now… she needs help. Ruby has recently been diagnosed with a mast cell tumor on her leg and now requires surgery and specialist care. We are scheduled to see an oncologist, and I don’t have the financial means to cover that. This is incredibly hard to ask—but if Ruby’s story has ever touched you, directly or indirectly, I’m asking for your help to give her the same chance she once gave me. She was once the dog no one wanted. Now she’s the dog who changed everything.
Every donation—no matter how small—goes directly toward her treatment.
And if you can’t give, sharing her story would mean just as much.
Thank you for standing with us.
