We are facing the possibility of losing another member of our family—and we are not ready to say goodbye. Rose is more than our dog—she is family. She has been our comfort, our joy, and our light during one of the hardest seasons of our lives. This past year has been incredibly painful. My father abandoned our family after being unfaithful to my mother, leaving us completely broken. He was the breadwinner, and overnight everything fell on us. My mom has had to search for work, and we have been on the verge of losing our home. In the middle of it all, I had to step up as the provider—working as much as I can just to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. Through this storm, Rose has been one of the only sources of light in our home—alongside our faith in God. No matter how heavy or sorrow-filled our days have been, her joy has always brought us comfort and reminded us to keep going.
Now, we’ve received devastating news that has shaken us all over again. Rose has a large mass on her liver, and doctors have told us that urgent surgery is her only chance to survive. Without it, we could lose her. We are heartbroken. We are barely making rent, and we simply do not have the financial means to save her life. This is why we are asking for help. Rose is only 8 years old. She is a part of our family, and we cannot imagine another loss—another empty space in our home—especially after everything we’ve already endured.
