We started this gofundme for my precious, sweet mother-in-law, Sue, who is retired and spends her time taking care of her home and her four fur babies. I'd like to introduce you to Ripley, her super-lovable, orange and white, 7- year old kitty rescued by Sue three years ago when Ripley's family could no longer take care of her.
Two years ago, Ripley developed an infection in her right eye that finally healed after several months in a cone and a stack of vet bills. In October 2019, soon after the right eye healed, an infection developed in her left eye. Sue took Ripley back to the vet, who diagnosed it as herpes. As her eye was progressively worsening, Sue decided to take Ripley to an eye specialist in December, who reaffirmed the vet's diagnosis.
This eye issue has caused an open wound in Ripley's eye that won't heal. In January, Ripley had a procedure where the specialist scraped around the edges of the wound in an effort to stimulate healing. It didn't work.
If you've ever scratched your eye, you know how painful it can be. Ripley's eye pain is much more severe than a scratch. Due to the pain and risk of the wound becoming infected, Ripley's day currently consists of the following meds:
- Pain med (Buprenex) - as needed via syringe
- Antibiotic drops (Ciprofloxacin) - 2 times/day for infection
- Vitamin (L-Lysine) - 2 times/day to promote healing
- Eye ointment (Artificial Tears) - 1-2 times daily for comfort
- Antiviral eye drops (Idoxuridine) - 6 times/day (replaced Famciclovir)
This beautiful cat will eventually lose her eye due to the inflammation, which will ultimately cause it to rupture. The doctor says the only possibility of bringing relief of pain and saving Ripley's eye is surgery. The estimated cost of the surgery is almost $3,000 (estimate below).
My mother-in-law has spent hundreds on treating Ripley's right eye and over $1,000 thus far on her left eye (some of the receipts are below). She is doing her best to take care of herself, her home, and her other three fur babies on a fixed income.
We are asking for any help you may find in your heart and be in a position to offer to help this sweet kitty keep her eye, lose her pain, and return to a normal, healthy, happy life.
We hope to raise at least $2,200 to help offset the cost of for this surgery for Ripley. We sincerely thank you in advance!
Message from Ripley: Hi everyone! I just want to say that my human is the best fur mom ever! I would've been homeless or in a shelter if it weren't for her. She already had 4 cats when I came along, but she brought me into her home and heart nonetheless. (We lost one of our furs 3 years ago, so it's just the four of us furballs now). None of us, including my mom, are in perfect health: my brother, BluBell, has feline urinary syndrome, and Katy and Razzle are kinda old, so they have quite a few issues, too. She spends a lot of time on our care, mine especially. She tells me all the time how special I am and how much she loves me. Sometimes I see her crying because it breaks her heart to see me in chronic pain. I hope I'm able to get this surgery so maybe I'll get better and then feel better.
Sweet Ripley...
