Meet Remington! Our 15 1/2-year-old Chiweenie! Remington is more than your average dog. I have epilepsy, and he has been my seizure alert dog. I have a traumatic brain injury, and he has been my companion dog! On Sunday, we were forced to rush Remington to an emergency vet hospital because all vets are closed in our area. My husband, Mark, took both Remington and our other little dog outside. Within minutes, Remington vomited and became lethargic. Mark immediately picked him up, and Remington then had immediate diarrhea. After coming back into the house, Remington had multiple bouts of diarrhea, vomited more times, and continued to be lethargic. My husband called BEVS emergency vet, where they told us they wanted to admit him due to elevated kidney and liver levels. They gave him IV fluids and monitored him for 24 hours in the Intensive Care Unit. The staff also did an ultrasound on his abdomen to rule out cancer while he was there. There were no signs of cancer on the ultrasound. His blood pressure was elevated, so they put him on blood pressure medication. After treatment at the hospital, Remington is now home, with a full recovery! The discharge diagnosis papers the doctor wrote up this…
Remington was evaluated for an acute onset of vomiting and diarrhea. Blood work revealed mild elevation in liver and kidney values. Ultrasound revealed changes consistent with chronic kidney disease and gastroenteritis.
The vet told us this diagnosis is normal for a dog Remington’s age.
We are seeking donations towards Remington’s emergency hospital overnight stay and medications, as we have totaled them all.
We would like to add, we have another dog, Millie. She is 5 1/2 years old, and before this episode, Remington played with her just like a pup. We are so thankful for the vet hospital! Remington is just as he was! Running with Millie and back home with us!
