Protect Our Dogs’ Freedom, Health & Community Space
The Fight Is On!
For over 20 years, Point Hut Dog Exercise Area has been a treasured escape — acres of natural space where dogs can run, sniff, play, and just be dogs. It's where owners meet, communities connect, and both humans and dogs get fresh air, exercise, and joy.
Now the ACT Government wants to take it away - without consultation!
They’ve built an agility park next door thinking it will replace this vital off-leash park with a fenced-in strip of land less than 1/20th the size — a space so small it would hardly let a dog stretch its legs, let alone meet its mental or physical needs.
See It For Yourself
In gold: the current Point Hut Dog Exercise Area — acres of open space where dogs roam free and communities thrive.
In yellow: the “upgrade” — a roadside sliver, barely 1/20th the size, fenced in and inadequate.
Would you call this an upgrade?
Neither do we.
All in the name of "conservation" — on land that was once used as a construction dumping ground, still full of blackberries and building debris, far from any pristine ecosystem.
❌ This is not progress. It's a downgrade.
PHDEA is:
Not on the river (the river is nearby, but dogs must be on leash)
Not blocking the Bicentennial Trail (it runs beside the park, untouched)
Not pristine bushland (it’s recovering land repurposed by the community)
This is not about nature — it’s about removing public space.
What the Funds Will Support
Your donation will help us:
- Print flyers, posters, and signage
- Run awareness campaigns and local events
- Cover costs for community meetings, public rallies, and council submissions
- Seek legal or advocacy support if required
We’re asking for an initial goal of $3,000, with every dollar going directly to this grassroots effort.
Why It Matters
Dogs thrive on freedom, movement, and socialisation. Confined agility parks cannot replace bushland. And owners? Many use this space to walk, jog, or de-stress — often forming close friendships with fellow regulars.
PHDEA isn’t just a dog park.
It’s a wellbeing space.
It’s a social hub.
It’s a local treasure.
