Hi Everyone, only a couple of you know my situation with Sumi so I’ll explain why I’m desperately reaching out for help.
Sumi needs emergency surgery!
She needs an urgent splenectomy and further testing of an adrenal gland problem.
After suddenly showing illness on 25/3 we rushed to her vet and she was placed on analgesics for 5days and a blood test showed abnormal results so a wee test was then done, again showing abnormal results, no infections or obvious diagnosis could be made so we booked an ultrasound. It was expected Sumi had a adrenal gland problem but what exactly was uncertain.
The ultrasound was performed on 19/4 and that’s when a 13cm Cyst was found imbedded in her spleen, distorting her kidney, liver and hiding her left adrenal gland, her right adrenal gland is enlarged and has a lesion. The specialist emergency vet that performed the ultrasound suggested immediate surgery as her spleen could rupture at any time causing server trauma, pain and suffering that even with immediate surgery, would cause probable death.
I booked a consult to go over the results with Sumis vet at Greencross Subiaco, they then wanted to do a CT scan which is $2000+ before any surgery to determine the condition of her other adrenal gland for diagnosis and to look at the organs from the other side blocked from view during the ultrasound.
At this point I was already freaking out and financially couldn’t proceed with anything further so I started trying to raise funds. I researched her test results to better understand the possible adrenal gland problems suggested and knowing I could never afford two surgeries if it is the worst case scenario I was forced to accept the best I could do was try to urgently raise money for a splenectomy and a LDDST that is the cheapest and another method of determining which adrenal gland problem she has so she can have non surgical treatment. I had to have another consult to discuss my research and tell them of my wishes and requested quotes.
During this time I reached out to family and my community for donations of items I could sell at swapmeet with my best friends help. I raised enough funds to pay for the owing ultrasound debt which gave me some hope towards surgery.
I contacted another 5 vets and received 3 more quotes whilst researching funding and payment options. The cheapest low price for surgery is quoted between $2940 to $6000 and the highest price being between $3570 to $9000. The best price for a LDDST is approximately $500.
Naturally I will have to go for the lowest quote which was with Wembley VeterinaryHospital.
Unfortunately due to having gone bankrupt in the past, the amount needed and being on a pension I have been refused by vet pay that Wembley vet use and unable to get other funding so far. I had another market stall last weekend that has paid for another consult with Wembley this time as all the vets demanded one before surgery. Sumi is otherwise in really good health for her age and after the splenectomy she could be expected to live a quality life for another 2 to 5 yrs so I refuse to give up on her now. I’ve continued with my collecting and trying to find help, did another market with my mums help and have another planned for this weekend. I found a charity called Perth Vet Bill assist that may help with any remaining amount needed after trying everything they list you to do, which I had already started. This Go Fund Me is the last on that list for me to do and I do it as a last resort. I must show evidence of all my attempts in my application and pray that I’m lucky enough to recieve funding depending on the charities ability at the time and my case is selected. So far I have raised $1000 and will continue doing everything in my ability to do but I desperately need all the help I can get. The thought of my girl dying such a horrendous death is destroying me so I’m begging now for any help you can offer. If your like me and have nothing even a gold coin could make a difference to save Sumi's life and prevent our pain and suffering. I’m more than happy to present any evidence for anyone should they wish to see it and promise every cent will go to the vet costs needed. I would love for you to share this fundraiser with as many people as you can in the hope sumi doesn’t have to wait any longer as she’s a ticking time bomb. Thankfully she isn’t showing any stress only I am. I can’t express how much your help would mean to us other than to say I would be grateful from the bottom of my heart
Thank you all for your consideration
