Help Save our Stray Pup

Hello from Kerrie and Annie! As most of you know, we are travelling around Sri Lanka. The country unfortunately has a massive problem with strays, but most of them are healthy and the locals always feed them.

Whilst in Tangalle, we came across a sweet little stray pup, estimated to be a year old. As she was not vaccinated, she has unfortunately contracted Distemper. We came across her on a walk and our hearts instantly broke. As it has been left untreated for so long it has got to the stage that her nervous system is affected, and she now suffers from constant tremors.

Whilst there is no cure, she can and has been receiving treatment to treat the secondary infections this disease can cause, as well as anti-convulsion medication to help prevent or reduce her tremors. We have also got her flea and tick treatments.

We are already seeing an initial improvement as the medication is helping fight the vomiting and diarrhea, allowing her to gain some weight. As well as this, her convulsions, whilst still continuous, are less violent as when we first found her.

We embarked on this journey knowing the implications cost wise, however there was no way we could walk away from her with a clear conscience. Unfortunately it has gotten to the stage where we can no longer afford to keep up the treatment ourselves, and we are kindly asking our family, friends, and generous strangers to help us continue her treatment so that she can live a happy life.

We appreciate there is a cost of living crisis right now, and that not everyone has much disposable income. We also understand that many of you will not want to donate for what seems like a lost cause, but let us assure you, she is the sweetest little pup we have ever met and we are already witnessing her improve as the days go by.

Any extra funds received will be donated to a local charity, Save A Stray Tangalle. Chanika is caring for 65 dogs currently, and from her own pocket and generous donations has paid for distemper and rabies jabs for all the dogs, as well as getting them neutered and any other vet treatments they require.

If you have any concerns before donating, please reach out to us!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
