Help save our shared rehearsal room in The Manhattan Music Building. This is a 24 hour access room that helps musicians save money by allowing them to spend much less than they would at hourly rehearsal rooms. They can also play on their own gear and store it here. The total rent for the space is $2500 a month, which was always difficult to come up with, even before the Covid pandemic. But when Covid hit, I lost more than half my tenants immediately, and could only pay a small portion of the monthly rent. The landlord was fine with that, thinking things would soon get back to normal. Here we are 3 years later and things have not gotten back to normal. Coming up with the monthly rent is next to impossible. People are not able or willing to pay what they used to pay. Some of this may be due to the fact that the live music scene has dried up quite a bit. It's very hard to fill all the time slots available, and when they are filled, the total rent collected is falling short between $400 to $700 a month. The solution would be to lower the rent to fit this new reality.
The landlord has agreed to lower the rent providing I make a fundraising effort to pay down the back rent that has accrued since the Covid Pandemic. Help keep live music alive in the city!
