Our 12 week old Pembroke Welsh corgi puppy Teddy, who has been with us for two weeks, became very sick last Friday, July 24th. He had been a very happy boy up until that day, loved chasing his squeaker toys, nipping our ankles, eating flowers, and playing with us day and night.
Teddy was admitted to the ER on Friday with nausea, diarrhea, giardia and lethargy, and quickly deteriorated over the weekend. After having trouble breathing, he was diagnosed with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (intestines moved to chest) which required surgery, but the doctor was unable to find the hole and closed the incision. He then developed aspiration pneumonia, then his red blood count dropped and he needed a blood transfusion. He has been in an oxygen cage since Saturday. We transferred him on July 27th to SAGE Veterinary Center in Redwood City, one of the best Bay Area vet emergency hospitals.
Today, the doctors determined the mass seen on the x-ray is either a hiatal hernia, or a lung lobe torsion, a rare, life-threatening pulmonary disorder which occurs when the lung lobe rotates, cutting off air flow and blood supply. In order for Teddy to survive, he needs another very expensive surgery tomorrow (approx. $10,000). Unfortunately, we only have pet insurance for wellness care, and the initial cost of the hernia surgery and complications has been astronomical.
Can you please help us with Teddy’s surgery? Other expenses include a CT scan, treatment for pneumonia and hospital stay post-surgery. Anything would help - a few dollars, kind words, or hugs. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
