My partner and I adopted Poe from an animal shelter about a month ago and we immediately fell in love with her sweet, quirky personality. Just last week Poe didn't seem like herself, she didn't want to play anymore, and was walking all wobbly. We took her to the vet and they began treating her for toxoplasmosis. After a few days, Poe's condition worsened. She had absolutely no mobility and refused to get up to eat/drink. I took her to the E.R where she was diagnosed with suspected Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a mutation of the feline coronavirus. This was absolutely devastating news for us as FIP is %100 fatal without experimental treatment. The vet recommended humane euthanasia as Poe had less than a week to live, so we took her home to say our goodbyes. That night Poe's condition was horrible, she was crying and struggling to breathe, we honestly didn't think she would make it through the night. Somehow she pushed through, and I discovered the incredible FIP Warriors.
With their help, Poe has been receiving an experimental drug that has shown great promise in curing a high percentage of cats with FIP. The drug is called GS-441524 and must be injected every day for 84 days. The drug is not yet legal, so we have to perform all the injections ourselves. Poe is only on day 3 of her treatment and her condition has already improved drastically. She's back to playing, following us around the house, and consistently devours all of her food. It's incredible how quickly she has bounced back , and truly feels like a miracle that we came across this treatment. However, she's still got a long way to go and this treatment does not come cheap. Every bottle of this liquid gold goes for around $200, and only last us about a week. On top of that she needs monthly blood work to track her progress and daily painkillers to cope with the pain from injections. We are so happy to be able to give Poe the opportunity to beat this horrible illness, she's a little fighter and is not giving up anytime soon. She is a very special little ray of sunshine, and we just can't imagine our home without her.
Your generous donations would go directly towards saving Poe's life, helping with things such as:
- Her daily dose of GS-441524
- Supplies such as needles and syringes
- Pain killers
- Vet bills (monthly bloodwork)
- Ubers to get her to and from the vet (we don't own a vehicle)
- Lots of treats to help her get through this!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Poe's story. Even if you aren't able to donate, sharing on social media is a huge help. <3 Much love -Sidonia and Jordan
