Since 1974, Open Gate Nursery School has been a beloved part of Redwood City — shaping generations of young children and their families. As one of the first parent cooperative preschools in the area, we offer more than early childhood education — we help families build the village it takes to raise children.

At Open Gate, parents and teachers work side by side to create a nurturing, play-based environment that supports children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development during their most critical years. Our commitment to parent education strengthens families from the inside out, creating lasting bonds and confident caregivers who carry these skills far beyond the preschool years. But like many small nonprofits, we're now facing the biggest financial challenge in our 50-year history.

The pandemic, declining enrollment, reduced public funding, and the expansion of transitional kindergarten have stretched our resources to the limit. Our financial reserves are fully depleted. Without significant support, we risk closing our doors.
