Hi there. We are Alissa and Chris. We adopted Benny the chocolate lab back in January 2021 when we found out we were pregnant with our first baby that is due in September 2021. We want our baby to grow up with a loving puppy. He is the sweetest baby puppy in the entire world. I love him more than anything. Unfortunately he swallowed some fabric That ended up getting coiled and stuck in his intestines. We had to make a difficult financial decision and went ahead with surgery that ended up costing us over $7000. We had been saving for our baby on the way that is due in September. We treat our dogs like family and knew we couldn’t give up on him. Benny ended up having to get 2 feet of his intestines removed. He had surgery on Saturday 07/10/21. He did amazing the day after surgery, but unfortunately had complications afterwards. We paid over $7000 for this surgery to try and save our baby and we’re given a 70-80% success rate. Unfortunately the surgery ended up not being successful. The vet recommended he needed another surgery to possibly fix the leakage in his intestines or he will have to be euthanized. We wanted to give our pup a second chance but knew there was no way we could afford anymore. The second surgery was estimated to cost an additional $7200-$11,000. We unfortunately after spending $7000 for the first surgery, could not afford it. We love Benny so much and he will always be in our hearts. Our family is so devastated we cant even fathom. We have tried everything and don’t want to have to euthanize him because we can’t afford it. On our way to the hospital to say goodbye before he had to get euthanized, we recieved a phone call from the vetinary clinic saying they found an amazing organization willing to help fund Benny’s second surgery. We were is disbelief, shocked, cried happy tears, and were so beyond grateful that we didn’t have to say goodbye to our baby pup. He’s going to have a second fighting chance. The organization was able to help with part of the cost but we still had to pay an additional $3000 out of our pocket. We are willing to do whatever it takes to save him. We have cried and cried, we haven’t slept, nor could we eat as we are sick to our stomachs about the entire situation. It has been so stressful mentally and financially. We have now spent over $10,000 out of pocket to save him. He is only an 8 month old pup so we wanted to make sure we tried everything before we gave up. We are so heart broken as he is the most well behaved, loving, sweetest dog in the entire world. The second surgery ended up going well, however, he needs to be hospitalized for several days for his body to heal. He ended up having to get an additional 18 inches of his intestines removed (for a total of 36 inches removed), he had in infection, his spleen had to be removed, and he had an abscess deep in his stomach that had formed as well. We believe Benny can make it through it because he has put up such a fight. His surgery was 2 days ago and he is doing so well so far. He has a road to recovery for his body to heal after surgery. Unfortunately due to the extremities of his surgery, he has to be hospitalized for 4 days to help him heal and get better. We know we can’t give up on him. Benny is fighting for his life so he can come back home to us so we have been doing everything we can to fight for him. He's so sweet and so full of life and spirit still, he’s not reedy to say goodbye just yet. The additional hospital stay is estimated to cost an additional $5000-$6000. We have drained our account from both surgeries, this amazing organization has given us as much as they could which we are forever grateful for, and we have one last milestone to go for his final recovery. We are desperately seeking help as we have come so far. We just can’t give up now. Benny has put up such a fight and hasn’t given up on us. We are asking for help to help cover the costs for Benny’s hospitalization after surgery. We have come so far and can’t give up on him now. Thank you so much for reading our story.
