Oreo was found in devastating condition. His tail was severely injured and hanging limp, his bottom was covered in feces, and the skin on his back legs was raw and missing in places. It was clear he had been suffering for a long time and was in tremendous pain. We could not turn away from him. Oreo was safely trapped and rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital, where doctors determined he needed urgent surgery to treat his injuries and prevent infection. At one point, euthanasia was discussed due to the severity of his condition. However, the veterinarian told us Oreo still had a fighting chance, and we could not give up on him. Oreo underwent emergency surgery and is now recovering, but he still has a long road ahead. He will require medications, wound care, and dedicated aftercare as he heals. Once he is strong enough, Oreo will also need an additional surgery to be neutered as part of his continued care. Emergency veterinary care is extremely expensive, and the costs for Oreo’s treatment and recovery have quickly added up.
