Help Save Oregon Trail Games

Donation protected
Oregon Trail Games has been a part of downtown in The Dalles since the fall of 2012, and under our ownership since 2014.  We’ve proudly given kids and adults from across the Columbia Gorge and of all ages a place to hang out, play games, interact with other people face-to-face without computer or phone screens, and more importantly a judgement-free place for them to simply be themselves.  In 2016 we moved to our amazing current location in the IOOF building and expanded the space for both retail sales and game play for our customers.

We are currently faced with a dilemma, and need your help. Through a series of recent events, we are faced with the prospect having to liquidate our remaining inventory and closing OTG’s doors for good.  Without going into details, police reports have been filed, but the chance for recouping anything, and in any reasonable amount of time (if at all) is honestly slim. Being an independent retailer in any trade is not for the faint of heart and the margins are sometimes painfully slim, but when things happen such as they have, it makes continuing on nearly impossible.  We would like to keep offering OTG’s space and events to the community, but at this point it would leave our family in financial ruin. In our initial discussions, we honestly were ready to just throw in the towel, sell anything off that we could, and deal with the remaining financial consequences, which ultimately would probably be some form of bankruptcy. At the urging of several close friends/customers, we’ve decided to try to keep going if there’s support to do so, and to start this gofundme.  We’re hoping that if it’s successful that we can keep the doors open long into the future, but right now it’s completely up in the air. We aren’t in this business to become millionaires, and are honestly happy with breaking even if it means the “place” that OTG has become for so many people is still available. All funds from this venture will go to pay for what is gone, help build back the inventory that we should have, and keep OTG alive and thriving.

If you want somewhere local that you come find a new game to play with friends or family, we want to keep being that place.  If you were that “weird kid” in school (or even as adults!) that wore capes and costumes and want somewhere to hang out (and not feel uncomfortable) with the other “weird kids”, we want to keep being that place.  If you want somewhere local to socialize with others with no drugs, no alcohol, and just fun to do things (there are SOME limits), we want to keep being that place. If you never grew out of playing with “little plastic men” and still think that’s awesome, we want to keep being that place.  If you want a place to pretend to be an elf, a dwarf, or whatever else your imagination might build to get away from reality if even for a couple of hours, we want to keep being that place. If you just want somewhere to sit and play chess, cribbage, Risk, or any other game with friends (or to make new friends who play the same game as you), we want to keep being that place.
