Help Save Opie’s Eye – Urgent Surgery

Opie isn’t just our dog, he’s of course, part of our family. He’s the kind of dog that will never leave your side and happiest curled up in a lap. He's a calm, loving real life teddy bear and also registered as an emotional support service dog.

There isn't a day that goes by where Opie doesn't touch someone's heart.

About a month ago, Opie started acting different. We noticed he had devoled a growth on top of his eye; (just under his eyelid) and it was now protruding. We immediately took him to the emergency vet clinic. The vet suggested Opie complete a full course of antibiotics. If after, there was no improvement, we'd need to contact a veterinary eye specialist in the Denver area.

Unfortunately, even after completing the full course of antibiotics, his condition rapidly progressed; NOT for the better.. His eye became more red, the swelling grew and he started showing sensitively to light. We spoke to a specialist (via email and pictures) we learned Opie needed to be seen again immediately.

(Literally) while scheduling his appointment and learning he had a possible tumor, Opie took it upon himself to scratch the growth open; exposing it and making it bleed.

Now we had to take action immediately; jumped in the car and drove straight to Loveland, CO where Opie was seen by a Veterinary Eye Specialist.

Unfortunately, the update wasn't a good one. It's confirmed; Opie has a tumor in his eye; urgent surgery is required to try and remove the tumor and save his eye. During surgery, they'll also determine if the eye can be preserved. If not, they'll have to remove it while there to stop the pain and prevent further complications.

It's also possible that after the tumor is removed and sent to a lab for further evaluation, those results could force us to come back and completely remove his eye anyway.

This all has to happen quickly.
The estimated cost is:
~$3,000 to attempt to remove the tumor and save the eye

An additional ~$1,500 if the eye must be removed
Plus travel, pre-op, and post-op care
We are asking for help to cover a total of $5,000 so we can give Opie his best possible chance at full recovery, keeping his eye.

We're doing everything we can, but the cost is significant and time-sensitive. Our goal is simple: give Opie every chance to keep his eye and live comfortably.

If you’re able to help in any way, whether it’s donating or sharing, Opie and our family would be incredibly grateful.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting Opie.
