Help save Ocean Sunfish in New England waters!

We are the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA), an all-volunteer non-profit organization that combines educational programs with conservation activities to protect and rescue marine life in the coastal waters of Massachusetts.

We are fundraising for our fall marine wildlife stranding season, where we are committed to rescuing stranded Ocean Sunfish (Mola mola). These gentle giants often become trapped in Cape Cod Bay, unable to navigate around the hook-shaped peninsula. As temperatures drop, they get caught in cold, shallow waters where they become cold-stunned and unable to swim, ultimately stranding along the shoreline.

Our dedicated volunteers work to locate and tow these gentle giants back to deeper waters, giving them a second chance at survival. Last season, we successfully rescued 65 live sunfish and necropsied (animal autopsy) over 100 carcasses that washed ashore, information vital for scientific research. We can't continue this important work without your support.

NECWA is in great need of funds to purchase supplies and equipment, such as wetsuits, drysuits, marine radios, and binoculars, as well as temporary housing for volunteers and interns close to our field sites. We need gas for our rescue vehicles and for our rescue boat that is kept in Wellfleet Harbor.
