Just this past November, my mom’s beloved beagle, Molly, passed away from cancer. Not long after, my father—her husband—suddenly passed away at home from cardiac arrest at the beginning of December. Our hearts were broken, and we needed some kind of positivity in our lives. That’s when we adopted Oberon, or “Obi,” a beagle/dachshund mix from a rescue in EHT, NJ. This rescue pulls dogs from high-kill shelters in Georgia, and Obi brought a spark and joy back into our lives, especially for my mom.

But the day after Christmas, Obi became very ill. We rushed him to our regular vet, and when he didn’t improve, we took him to Mt Laurel Animal Hospital. By the time we arrived, his blood glucose and body temperature had dropped to critical levels, and he began sneezing blood. He’s been in the ICU since December 27, fighting for his life. Obi is still very sick and not eating, so he has to stay in the hospital until he can eat on his own. He currently has a feeding tube, has been on oxygen, and is receiving dextrose to support his glucose levels. As most people know, medical bills can pile up quickly, and Obi’s recovery is not looking to be easy or quick. This puppy means everything to my family right now, and we are keeping hope alive while we do everything we can to save him.

We are hoping this fundraiser will help alleviate the cost of Obi’s prolonged ICU stay and ongoing treatments. We want to thank everyone for reading and for any support—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing our story. Your kindness would mean the world to my mom and me. We are keeping faith alive that Obi will be our Christmas miracle.
