This is the deeply heartbreaking story of a 68-year-old uninsured Ismaili elder who has called Queens home for more than 40 years. After suffering a major stroke, he was admitted to Elmhurst Hospital, but because of his financial status, he was transferred to a rehab facility in Staten Island. What should have been a place of healing has instead become a place of suffering.
Due to severe understaffing and inadequate training at the facility, he experienced a devastating fall from his bed. No one noticed. He lay unconscious on the floor for hours—alone—until his daughter arrived and found him collapsed, helpless, and forgotten. No human being deserves this, especially not someone who has spent decades quietly building a life in this country.
He has no close family able to care for him daily, and he lacks the financial means to access proper medical support. His health is deteriorating, not because of the stroke alone, but because of the environment he has been forced into.
As family to family, Ismaili to Ismaili, and human to human, we humbly ask for your support. No contribution is too small—every act of generosity can make a meaningful difference.
Our goal is to move him into a private care facility where he can receive compassionate, professional, and consistent care to support his physical and emotional recovery from this life-altering trauma.
If you can't help monetarily at this time, you can also help by sharing this fund through the Jamat and community.
