Help Save Native Turtles of NC
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Olivia and my dad David and I operate a not for profit organization called A Turtle For Every Log. Our mission is to rescue, rahabiliatate and release turtles into improved habitats until every log has a turtle on it!
My dad and I decided that we couldn't solve huge issues impacting the whole world, but that we could maybe save some turtles to make the world a better, healthier place. Every turtle life saved is so important to us.
Native turtle species have been around since before the dinosaurs were, but are no on a rapid decline due in most part to human activity. Just in the last 30 years there has been an observable drop in populations of both land and water turtles in NC.
In order to do what we can to help as many turtles as possible, we have set up a rehab facility and a head start program for the hatchlings to help ensure that they survive their first few years when 90% of wild hatchlings die. We work often with the NC State Turtle Rescue Team to repair injured animals, treat them while they heal and release them into safe habitats.
Another aspect of what we are doing is rehabilitating the wetlands in NC. Wetlands are prime turtle breeding territory and human development has had a massive impact on wetlands. We are trying to recreate them by planting native plants, creating cover and food sources for turtles and just spreading awareness.
We also do educational programs for school children, outreach to other rehabs in the state, and take in pet surrenders.
All of this costs us time and money. Turtles just can't pay their own way, and shouldn't have to. It's our responsibility to help them, and to do that, we need a little help in turn. Anything helps us buy food, medical supplies, gas for transporting injured turtles to the vet, native plant starts and labor in our efforts to save the turtles!
Thank you!
