Help Save Naji’s Life: Urgent Treatment Needed for a Brave Little Boy

My name is Robert Ligertwood, and I am fundraising on behalf of Sarah Nyaraka, a devoted nurse, lab technician, and often the only doctor available at the Makina Clinic in the Kibera community of Nairobi, Kenya.

For years, Sarah has cared for thousands of families in one of the largest informal settlements in East Africa. She works long, difficult hours for little or no pay, driven by a fierce commitment to her community. The Makina Clinic—alongside its orphanage and women’s empowerment program founded in 1999—has become a lifeline for those who would otherwise have no access to healthcare.

Today, Sarah needs our help.

Her young son, Naaji, has been diagnosed with a Grade III brainstem glial tumor—a life-threatening condition far beyond the limited resources of the Makina Clinic. After initial evaluation and preparation for surgery in Nairobi, specialists have confirmed that Naaji urgently requires advanced treatment that is not available in Kenya. His best chance of survival depends on immediate travel to India or China for specialized care.

The consulting neurosurgeon in Nairobi has estimated an initial cost of $30,000 USD, covering the surgery, travel, and the first phase of treatment. This amount is impossible for Sarah to manage on her own. As any parent knows, the thought of not being able to save your child—simply because the care is out of reach—is unbearable.
