Hi. My name is Scott and I am secretly fundraising for one of my students. Her story is one of constant struggle and broken promises. She grew up in the foster system and has been through a lifetime of pain and abuse that I have no way of imagining. She has worked her way out into the world and starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel until 2020. In February of 2020 she got offered her first real adult job as a substitute teacher but was quickly furloughed then dropped completely as the world shut down. She moved herself and her young son to the other side of the state after finding (on paper) a promising living situation. Once she arrived in Eastern Washington to her new residence she realized that the owners misrepresented the living situation and knew that she was getting very little government aid and would be unable to leave/complain or hire legal representation. Her landlord constantly torments her and her young son throughout the day and night. She has found some very part-time teaching but does not have enough to leave this dangerous situation. We have tried gig work, other part-time work and online applications but she has not been able to get ahead at all. If she were able to have enough money to move to a more stable situation her and her young son could start to make a meager life for themselves, which is all she wants. She is one of the brightest students I have worked with and know that she would be a great American citizen if we, as a community can figure out how to bridge her gap from handcuffed to the state to the ground floor of the working poor then she will be able to begin her life. I have never used GoFundMe and am taking one shot to the fences to see if we can help someone so deserving so she can start to give back to the students she teaches and will continue to teach.
