My name is Michael, and I’m trying to save my parents’ home before a scheduled foreclosure auction on January 15. My father is a Vietnam veteran and a retired homicide detective who served two cities for over 30 years. My mother and father are both elderly and live on limited income. This home is their primary residence and the place where our family has lived for decades. I have included a photo of my father’s redacted military discharge record (DD-214) confirming his Vietnam service and honorable discharge.
Like many who have dedicated their lives to service, my father carries long-term mental health injuries from his past. He survived childhood abuse, the Vietnam War, decades of exposure to violent crime, and the devastating loss of his eldest son to suicide. Despite everything, he worked continuously to protect and provide for his family. In recent years, the cumulative weight of these experiences has made it difficult to navigate complex financial and legal challenges, and my parents now face the unimaginable possibility of losing their home.
At this stage, foreclosure can often be paused or delayed by raising a much smaller, time-sensitive amount to cover legal action, reinstatement costs, or emergency court filings while longer-term solutions like a loan modification are pursued. Funds raised through this campaign will be used immediately for emergency foreclosure defense, legal filings, court motions or injunctions to halt or delay the sale, and reinstatement or negotiation costs required to stop the foreclosure process. This fundraiser is not asking donors to pay off the house. It is to buy critical time, protect my elderly parents, and give them a fair chance to remain in their home.
Every donation — no matter the size — helps us fight this. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this campaign means more than you know. Thank you for reading, caring, and standing with my parents during the hardest moment of their lives, next to the loss of their son, my brother. — Michael
