My name is Mell, and I’m raising funds to help my mother keep her spa open…a space she courageously built in memory of my late beloved sister, Meli.

Just hours before my sister passed away, she and my mother shared a final conversation. They spoke of dreams, healing, and building something beautiful together, a spa. When Meli passed unexpectedly at 20 years old, that dream became my mother’s mission.

Despite battling severe depression and the unimaginable grief of losing a child, my mother opened the spa in the very neighborhood where she raised us. It became her lifeline…her way of reconnecting with the world, offering healing to others, and honoring the bond between a mother and daughter.

Three years later, this sanctuary is now at risk. A recent rent increase and the challenges of renewing her lease, combined with the financial strain of separating from and divorcing my father, have put overwhelming pressure on her. Still, my mother has shown incredible strength: securing a home for us, supporting me through college (which I paused to help her), and pouring her heart into every client she serves.

This spa is more than a business. It’s a promise fulfilled. It’s how my mother continues to live…with purpose, passion, and love. She intentionally employs and mentors young women and men from our community, creating opportunities and a nurturing space for all. But now she needs help to keep it alive. Giving young women and men a space to work and grow their craft is my mothers life’s work.
