A Visit That Turned Into a Nightmare

Hello, my name is Azeezat, and I am raising funds for my mother, Mrs. Omolegbe Oluwatoyin Sakirat.

My mother is a devoted 52-year-old muslim, mother of three, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She traveled from Nigeria to Surrey, British Columbia to visit me and help care for my 5-year-old child while I am pregnant. What was meant to be a joyful family visit quickly turned into a medical emergency that changed everything.

The Day Everything Changed

On the morning she was scheduled to fly back to Nigeria, my mother suddenly complained of a severe headache. Within minutes she began vomiting and collapsed at home.

Paramedics rushed to our home and transported her to the hospital. Doctors discovered she had suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm, a life-threatening condition. She was immediately intubated and admitted to the ICU. Doctors also found fluid in her lungs, which further complicated her condition.

She remained in a coma for six heartbreaking days while I sat by her bedside, pregnant and caring for my 5-year-old child , praying for my mother to survive.

Life-Saving Surgery
On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, doctors performed an emergency coiling procedure to repair the aneurysm. By God’s grace, the surgery was successful.

However, my mother remains in the ICU and her recovery is still uncertain. She continues to undergo CT scans, chest imaging, and constant monitoring. Doctors cannot yet say when she will be discharged.

Every additional day in the ICU brings new medical costs.

The Financial Reality

My mother came to Canada as a visitor and unfortunately does not have health insurance. All medical expenses must be paid out-of-pocket by our family.

So far, the expenses include:
• Coiling procedure already paid: $12,500
• ICU stay (estimated $13,100 per day)
• Ambulance transport
• Emergency scans and tests
• Doctor fees and consultations
• Hospital deposit ($6,000) pending the final bill
• Medications and post-operative care
• Future rehabilitation and recovery

I have already used my savings to pay for the surgery, but the medical bills continue to grow.
Why We Need Help

We are raising $50,000 as an initial goal to help cover:

• ICU care and hospital bills
• Medical scans and doctor consultations
• Ambulance and emergency care
• Medications and recovery treatment
• Post-discharge rehabilitation

The final cost is still unknown, but we know it will be significant.

About My Mother
My mother is more than a patient in an ICU bed.
She is a devoted Muslim who lives her faith with kindness and compassion.
She is a loving mother of three and a proud grandmother.
She traveled across the world simply to support her family.

She is known for her warm smile and generous heart; a smile we are praying to see again soon.

She came to Canada to help me.
Now I am asking for help to support her recovery.

Any donation, no matter how small, will help ease the overwhelming medical burden our family is facing. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping my mother in your prayers.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness and support.
