Hie. My name is Peter and, I & my family are asking for help for my mother Sinikiwe
My mother is currently fighting end stage kidney failure and she depends on dialysis twice every week to stay alive. Dialysis is not optional for her and missing even one session puts her life at risk.
On top of what she is going through, my mother suffered and survived 5 minor strokes and now we must prevent another
By God’s grace she recovered but her doctors have made it very clear that she must now take long term medication to prevent another stroke.
This medication is critical and without it her life could be in danger.
Altogether she's taking about 7 different types of medication for stroke prevention, High blood pressure and kidney failure management, and the cost is about $150 per month
She will also need physiotherapy and a speech therapist to help her improve her speech as the stroke affected her speech.
Because of her kidney failure, my mother’s body cannot produce enough blood on its own. She now requires special injections twice every week to stimulate her bone marrow to produce blood, which she receives every time she has a dialysis session
Each injection costs $40, which means $80 every week just to help her body survive.
She has already missed the last 3 injections due to unavailability of funds and missing these injections leaves her extremely weak and at risk of serious complications like severe anemia
She's had blood transfusion before because of severe anemia and through those injections, we're trying to avoid further costs of having to buy more blood, as blood is very costly in our country Zimbabwe.
She is also battling extrapulmonary TB (TB that affects body parts outside the lungs while not contagious)
which has weakened her even further and requires ongoing treatment which she's currently receiving
My mother must travel to the hospital twice every week for dialysis and unfortunately we have to use private taxis until we find another affordable form of transport
She is also required to follow a strict kidney friendly diet which is more expensive than normal food but necessary for her recovery
These are not once-off expenses, they are weekly and monthly needs.
Weekly we need about $150-$200 and monthly about $700 - $800.
As a family, we have done everything we can but the financial requirements has become overwhelming.
We never imagined we would be in a position where we have to ask strangers for help, but we are doing this because my mother’s life depends on it.
Any donation no matter how small will help us
We're hoping and praying that we have enough finances to cover her medical bills for the next couple of months while as a family we recover, save more and make plans for a more stable and sustainable way to care for her long term.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page. Sharing helps more than you may realize.
My mother has already fought so hard.
She has survived kidney failure complications, strokes, and TB and she is still fighting.
Please help us give her the chance to keep fighting.
Thank you for reading, caring and helping my family during this incredibly difficult time.
God bless you
PS: If you are unable to donate online, please reach out to us directly or to someone who shared this campaign with you.
