Help Save My Loving Companion from IMHA
Donation protected
My best friend, companion and partner that I’ve grown to fall completely in love with over the last 12 years with has unfortunately been diagnosed with a disease known as IMHA (Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia). This sudden and very aggressive disease was diagnosed just two days ago and he’s in critical care with some of the best care specialists I’ve ever worked with.
Last week my dog was very healthy, active and full of life. He loves to stick by my side in anything I do, even if it’s something simple like grabbing a snack out of the pantry. He loves attention and being cared for. Unfortunately, on February 5th, 2025 he suddenly collapsed after walking up the stairs after dinner. In all my years, I’ve never seen anything like this happen . He’s been the most caring, gentle, supportive and loving best friend I could ever ask for. To see him collapse after moving a short distance worried me so much that I took him to an emergency vet the next morning.
Upon analysis from the emergency vet, he has perfectly healthy organs according to an ultrasound and x-ray, no signs cancer anywhere, but his auto immune system is failing… destroying red blood cells at a pretty rapid rate.
His lips are pale white and he’s so weak from the anemia that he can barely walk outside to use the restroom.
To aid with this issue, I carried him outside for his needs to reduce as much stress I could so he could use the restroom and still do his normal activities. It broke my heart when he couldn’t even walk outside from being so weak.
In conclusion, the gold standard for this treatment is steroids (prednisone) which he’s been given, but his red blood cell count is so low (Under 15%) which is when the doctors recommend a blood transfusion. Thankfully, he’s in great hands and the blood transfusion should buy him time for the steroids to kick in which can save his life. He’s finished his blood transfusion and ate some dinner tonight. My first attached picture is him with the ICU about to go to sleep for the night (signs of great progress)
Sadly, this procedure has been incredibly costly. The blood transfusion along with the additional tests that has been needed for a proper diagnosis has cost me 7800$. I was willing to pay this amount because he’s worth every penny ❤️.
My ask for this fundraiser is to try and help someone in need who has never really had a lot of money but I’ve always had a huge heart. I care very deeply for those I love and this entire situation broke my heart. Any dollar that is donated will be greatly appreciated ❤️. If any additional care is needed I’m not sure that I can afford it which hurts to say and makes this entire story very difficult to write
