For the past seven years, I have been living with SMA Syndrome, a rare and life-threatening condition that compresses my intestines and prevents me from eating. I have survived on feeding tubes and IV nutrition through my chest for years, but my health and quality of life have suffered greatly. After exhausting all other options, I have finally found hope in the Alvear procedure—a complex surgery performed by only two surgeons in the entire United States. This surgery involves moving my intestines from the compressed area between my aorta and spine, and removing my appendix to allow for the repositioning. It is my best chance at a cure and a normal life.

Unfortunately, my insurance has declined coverage for this out-of-state surgery in Virginia, leaving me responsible for the full cost. The expenses include the surgery itself, as well as travel, hotel, food, and four weeks of recovery away from home. As a parent, I am also heartbroken that these expenses will impact my ability to provide a Christmas for my children this year. I am reaching out for help because I cannot do this alone.
