Hi, my name is Armi, and I am reaching out with a heavy but hopeful heart to ask for help for my mother in the Philippines, Erlinda Drilon, 82 years old, a deeply loved mother, grandmother, and family member.
We just lost my father 5years ago and my eldest brother just last year and it’s been very depressing for my family specially my mother. Since then, her health started deteriorating. Lost appetite, got skinnier and weaker.
It really breaks my heart seeing my mother in this situation.
Last January 8, 2026, she went through a terrifying medical emergency.
She was rushed to the hospital because of difficulty in breathing.
When they arrived at Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital in Quezon City, she was provided with oxygen right away, did some laboratory tests and IV.
Laboratory results came out and it was found that she has bacterial infection in her lungs and massive amount of water/fluid was found measuring 1.1 liters accumulated for both left and right lung. Diagnosed with late stage pneumonia as well. Her creatinine reached 600.
1. Pulmonary Edema - a serious condition where excess fluid builds up in the air sacs of the lungs, making it hard to breathe, often feeling like drowning or suffocation, and can stem from heart problems (most common) or lung injury, toxins, high altitudes, or infections, requiring immediate medical care with treatments like oxygen and medications to manage the underlying cause and relieve symptoms.
2. Pneumothorax - or collapsed lung, happens when air leaks into the pleural space (between the lung and chest wall), causing the lung to collapse, often presenting as sudden shortness of breath and sharp, one-sided chest pain. Causes range from trauma and medical procedures to spontaneous events (like ruptured blebs) or underlying lung diseases (COPD, asthma).
Aside from these, her diabetes is adding up to her suffering as well.
We planned to transfer her to a different hospital since there's limited treatment for my mom's case in the said hospital where she was admitted. While looking for another hospital specializing in my mom's case, the next day, she got weaker because of restlessness since she has scheduled nebulization and medications from time to time until she collapsed. You would see how much suffering she's into while unconscious and breathing so deep. She's not waking up for almost 6hrs.
Became unresponsive, whole body became pale, she stopped breathing, flatlined, pulse was gone. The doctors and nurses tried to do CPR and but no response. They asked us if we would like to intubate my mom so we could somehow give her oxygen directly and we all agreed though still on flatline and no pulse. Everyone kept on praying so hard. They tried to do another CPR, no response still. It went on for 8mins and the doctor said if they do another CPR, it might break her rib cage. Eyes are already constricted and not responding to light anymore. We decided to stop. Everyone in the hospital was crying and already saying each farewell to my beloved mother. Until it's time to remove all the IV and machines attached to her, the doctor uttered that she gained a pulse! She's slowly getting back! This gave us hope so we continued pumping the manual ventilator connected to the tube they put inside mom. After 30mins to an hour of monitoring and continuously talking to her, gained consciousness again! Such a complete miracle that God showed upon us!
By God’s grace and the efforts of medical staff, she was revived, and her fight is far from over.
My mother, Erlinda now requires urgent and ongoing medication, hospital transfer and medical care to keep her condition stable and prevent this from happening again. Every breath she takes is something we no longer take for granted.
The emotional and financial strain on our family has been overwhelming. We still have to transfer her to a more advanced hospital that could treat her case. We are already contacting different government hospitals but most of them are fully occupied with patients. Then next option would be on a Private Hospital and private room confinement since there's no available slot for wards. We were told that she has to be admitted in an ICU facility given her situation. She now has pneumonia as well. Her kidney is failing that all the medications being given to her, even the NGT food and IV, is not being processed by her body which now cause her body to swell.
As the only child supporting my mom, I would also like to be with her in this very trying times though I do not have savings and the salary I'm getting with my part time jobs here in Canada since I'm also a solo parent supporting my daughter's education alone here. Unfortunately, I am jobless now and I don’t really know where to get the finances for my own rent and other bills. We badly want to save my mom’s life so we would like to give her all the necessary treatments possible and it requires a huge amount of funding
Currently We are asking for help to cover:
• Flight tickets to visit/be with my mom as she battles her condition
• Ambulance services with doctor and nurse fees for assisted transfer
• IMMEDIATE Treatments for Pulmonary Edema and Pneumothorax
• All other treatments that will be advised once a specialist sees her
• Life-sustaining medications
• Ongoing medical care and consultations
• Hospital and related healthcare expenses
• Dialysis
• Therapy expenses until recovery
Any donation, no matter how small, can help give my mother, Erlinda, a chance to continue living, healing, and spending time with the people who love her. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this page — it truly makes a difference!
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, prayers, and support during this incredibly difficult time. Your generosity means more than words can express.
