I am fundraising to try to help my silly baby be healthy again, because it has been a huge expense in a very short period of time, and I'll continue to be an expense, but I am committed to getting to the bottom of this and getting her back to normal and her happy, healthy self. Please read and consider sharing to your social media, sending to family and friends, or even donating if you are able. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and no donation is too small
Ever since I got my sweet Afghan Hound, Wednesday, she has been intermittently sick. At first it was just a throw up here and there, then some diarrhea, then extreme thirst, and more.
I’ve been going to the vet nearly every single time she’s sick. At first it was back to back Giardia. We treated it. Fully gone. The symptoms weren’t too bad at that point, and seemed to get better when we treated the problem, or what we thought was the problem.
No such luck long term though /: My poor dog kept getting sick.
She's had so many symptoms, all too general to point to anything specific, and with no real pattern to help either. Vomiting, diarrhea, extreme thirst, frequent urination, peeing inside, weight loss, inability to gain weight despite being fed more, and a few more.
This poor girl really has been through it these past several months, and who knows how long before that that this has gone untreated.
This most recent time, she had explosive diarrhea in her crate. We immediately took her to the vet a few hours later, as soon as they could squeeze us in. The vet gave her an anti nausea injection this most recent time since she’d been throwing up as well, and some medication for us to take home to manage her symptoms and stabilize her condition while we figure out what’s wrong. An antibiotic, some probiotics, and a couple of other things for each of her symptoms. These were all just bandaids, but helped in the meantime.
They told me to call if she threw up within 24 hours of the anti nausea medication, which she did. We went to the vet as soon as we could that day, as recommended.
We've done everything we could think of for her so far. Fecal tests, urine tests, several X - Rays, an abdominal ultrasound, cortisol testing, Addison's disease testing, both a regular and fasted GI panel, and a TLI blood test. Everything besides one GI panel has come back normal looking. Obviously, both the vet and I know that what is happening isn't normal. The vet has specifically said that her symptoms don’t point to a food allergy, but we may still look into that as well, just in case.
Thankfully, based on our most recent test results, doesn’t have Addison’s, however, she does have something wrong with her gut / internal organs, but we aren’t sure what, because the testing can’t tell us exactly what is wrong or why. It just tells us what levels are off.
Realistically, the only other way that the vet and I can think to find out what the root of the problem is and hopefully stop her from being sick anymore is to get an endoscopy and / or a full on biopsy, an to put her on a special diet in the meantime. Meaning bags of food that are close to $100 for only 16 pounds, about once a month, maybe less if I up her intake to help her gain weight back.
The vet estimated that going to see a specialist to get the endoscopy would be around the same price (on the high end) that it would be for them to do a biopsy, around three to four thousand dollars. Maybe more, maybe less, depending on everything, and that an abdominal ultrasound would be around $1,400, once again, depending on the details and how it goes. This is kind of the last hope in terms of figuring out what is wrong with her, and getting her feeling like a normal dog again, aside from one other blood test, which we will be doing.
This fundraiser is for not only the future cost of the endoscopy and / or biopsy, an abdominal ultrasound, but also anything else that may come up, like medications or further testing, the medicated diet, emergency vet visits, and also to recoup some of the cost of the other vet bills that have come up, which are close to two thousand dollars at this point, all within just a couple of weeks.
Any and all donations are greatly appreciated, as well as any shares on social media and direct messages to friends, family, and anyone else who may be willing to help
