Help Save My Best Friend Gator

Donation protected
On November 17th, my world started to fall apart in a way I never expected. My dog, Gator, slipped and fell hard on his back left side from playing. At the time, it looked scary, but he got up and kept going like the tough six-year-old boy he is. We thought he would be okay.

A few days later, he started limping.

We rushed him to the vet and spent thousands of dollars on vet appointments, X-rays, and medications only to be told that nothing appeared wrong with his legs. We were relieved, trusting that rest would heal him. But one week later, everything changed.

Gator’s health declined rapidly. The pain became unbearable. He began screaming in pain, unable to move his left back left leg. He can’t get up to go eat, drink, or go potty due to the pain he’s in. If you’ve ever owned or loved a pitbull, you know they are army tanks. So when they hurt like this, that means they are really hurting. Watching my best friend suffer and not being able to fix it broke me in ways I never imagined. We were referred to a specialist, who then immediately sent us to a veterinary neurologist.

That’s when we got the devastating news.

Gator has injured his spine, causing him severe nerve pain and damage. Gator needs an MRI to locate the injury in his spine, followed immediately by emergency surgery to save his mobility — and possibly his life. The total cost for the MRI and surgery is $14,000.

I am currently in optometry school and I am doing everything physically possible to save my dog — including donating plasma just to keep up with initial medical bills. But no matter how hard I work, I cannot reach this amount on my own in the short time Gator has to be treated.

Gator is not just my dog. He is my first best friend. He has been with me through every hard season of my life. He has comforted me when no one else could. He greets me every day with the same unconditional love, no matter how exhausted or defeated I feel. He is only six years old — he still has so much life left to live.

The only alternative given to me if i cannot afford his bills is euthanasia so he no longer continues to suffer.

And that is not an option I am willing to accept when his life can still be saved, the only barrier being finances.

I am asking for help with the most vulnerable heart I have. Any donation — no matter how small — goes directly toward Gator’s MRI and surgery. If you cannot donate, sharing his story could save his life just as much.

Gator has never given up on me. I refuse to give up on him.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being part of his fight. ❤️
