Hi everyone,
As you all have known me for the past several years it has always been a dream of mine to open my own fitness studio. I came to America as an immigrant in 2003 and fall in love with fitness. I decided to pursue personal training with hopes of one day opening my own fitness studio. To accomplish this dream, I woke up 4 am every day to train clients, work hard, help others, and pursue my passion and dreams.
After over a decade of hard work and saving every dollar I earned, I was finally able to achieve my goal and opened FLEXX Fitness Club- here I was, the first Ethiopian Immigrant in San Diego to become a business owner focused on health and fitness. However, the excitement and feelings of finally accomplishing the American dream were short lived; just weeks after my opening FLEXX, the government mandated the “Shelter in Place” due to the Covid-19, and my studio was directly impacted. It has now been nearly three months that my doors have been forced to close.
With no income for nearly three months, and rent and expenses of nearly $10,000 each month, I may be forced to shut down for good. I have applied to every government assistance program available, from Small Business Owner PPP, to (EIDL), each application has been denied. With no assistance from the government, and no way to open my doors without facing penalties or jail time, I am reaching out to all of you to ask for your help. Honestly, it hurts me to ask for help as I have always worked hard to stand on my own two feet, but I am on the brink losing the business I worked over decade to build. I am grateful for your support.
