I would like to share the story of my little cousin, Juliana Alejandra, a sweet 5-year-old girl who urgently needs a life-saving procedure called an embolization surgery, which will take place in Quito, Ecuador.

The total cost of the surgery is very high ($21,092.38). Thankfully, with the support of a foundation, a large part of the cost has already been covered. However, her family is still short of the remaining $3,500—an amount that is beyond their means. Doctors have stressed that this surgery must be performed as soon as possible to prevent a brain bleed, which could happen at any moment and could cause severe, irreversible, or even fatal neurological damage.

Juliana’s development had been completely normal until just a few months ago, when she began suffering seizures. She was hospitalized twice, and after extensive testing, doctors diagnosed her with a cerebral fistula. Because of this, Juliana must avoid overstimulation and cannot participate in the everyday activities that most 5-year-olds enjoy. This has been incredibly difficult for both her and her family as they wait for this critical surgery.

With God’s grace, her neurosurgeon is confident that after this procedure, Juliana will be able to live a normal life—laughing, playing, and enjoying the simple joys of childhood again That’s why raising the remaining funds as quickly as possible is absolutely essential: it would give Juliana the chance to live fully, as every child deserves.

Les comparto la historia de mi primita Juliana Alejandra, de 5 años de edad, quien requiere con urgencia una cirugía de “Embolización”, proceso que se realizará en Quito, Ecuador.

El costo total de la cirugía es muy alto ($21,092.38) y, aunque afortunadamente se logró conseguir una parte importante a través de una Fundación, su familia no cuenta con los recursos económicos suficientes para costear el monto restante ($3,500). La urgencia y necesidad de realizar la operación lo antes posible se debe a que los médicos especialistas indican que hay que evitar a toda costa que se produzca un sangrado (el cual podría ocurrir en cualquier momento, y cuyas secuelas neurológicas pudieran ser fatales o irreversibles).

El desarrollo de Juliana había sido normal hasta hace pocos meses cuando convulsionó en varias ocasiones, por lo que estuvo hospitalizada en dos oportunidades y, al realizarle los estudios requeridos le diagnosticaron una fístula en el cerebro. Debido a esto, y según las indicaciones médicas, la niña no debe ser expuesta a ninguna sobre estimulación y, por ende, mientras no se le realice esta importante cirugía, no puede realizar las actividades regulares típicas de una niña de 5 añitos, lo cual ha sido obviamente muy retador tanto para Juliana como para su familia.

Afortunadamente, y con el favor de Dios, el médico neurocirujano especialista que la operará confía en que luego de esta cirugía Juliana podrá llevar una vida normal, disfrutar y realizar las actividades cotidianas típicas de su edad! Por esta razón es sumamente importante recaudar el monto restante que se necesita, lo antes posible, para poder brindarle esta nueva oportunidad de vivir plenamente a una niña tan dulce y noble como lo es Juliana Alejandra.
