My name is Aya, and I am writing on behalf of my family, who have endured immense loss and are still struggling to survive under extremely difficult circumstances.

During the funeral of a family member, the site was directly bombed. In that tragic moment, we lost five loved ones, and my brother Younes, 20 years old, suffered a severe injury that has profoundly changed his life.

Younes sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) with intracranial hemorrhage from shrapnel to his head. This injury severely affected his consciousness, cognitive functions, and higher neurological processes. As a result, he developed left-sided hemiplegia (paralysis of the left side of his body), losing partial mobility, along with recurrent epileptic seizures caused by disrupted brain electrical activity.

He also suffers from impaired attention and comprehension, speech difficulties, chronic headaches, and unstable levels of awareness. His condition requires constant medical supervision, ongoing medication (especially anti-seizure drugs), regular neurological examinations and brain imaging, as well as long-term physical therapy, occupational therapy, and neurorehabilitation, with a high likelihood of permanent disability.

On top of this medical crisis, our family lost our home entirely and our only source of income. The costs of Younes’ medical care—including medication, daily assistance, transportation, and rehabilitation—far exceed our financial capacity. We can no longer provide him with the essential care he needs without external support.
