This fundraiser is to help cover the costs of clearing out the Morrison Cemetery at Big Cut in Scott County, Virginia. At least 40 graves are here, with many dating back to the 1800s. Family graves include Piersons, Peters, Stokes, Jones, Baldwins, Bentons, Morrisons, and more. Several infant and child graves are here, and at least four Civil War veterans.
The cemetery has been neglected for many years and became severely overgrown. Many graves were damaged as the site became overtaken by forest and brush, and the place slowly became lost to time. Families coming to pay respects were unable to pass beyond the gate, if they could even reach that far.
The goal of this project is to clear out the cemetery so that families and others may once again enter the site, and to reset and clean up grave markers. Several volunteers have already donated their time and resources in Sep./Oct. 2025 and we've received assistance from New River Hardwoods next door to begin the clearing process. Those wishing to help us cover the costs of professional brush-clearing services, replacing the fence, cleaning supplies, equipment, and future mowing and upkeep may donate here. Thanks for your support!
