Help Save Moon Boots' Foot

If you know me at all, you know that my rabbit Moon Boots (11 years old) is more than just a Fur Baby; he's become the closest I've ever known as a son. And if you don't really know me or the bond I share with Moon, I'll try to briefly explain:

I adopted Moon at 3 months old back in May of 2011- & I hadn't the slightest idea all the adventures we would soon be on, all that we would go through together, or that he'd even still be around 11 years later: Moon was there to see me graduate from Undergrad, he helped me study during Graduate School, & he stuck by my side that one time I attempted PostGrad; he was there when I was happy in healthy relationships, he offered extra bunny snuggles during breakups, & he helped me hold on during a very unhealthy relationship; we've been on countless car rides together, 4 cross-country trips, & even planes rides; Moon has moved with me from Milwaukee to Tempe to North Scottsdale to NE Scottsdale to San Tan Valley to Phoenix to Milwaukee to Phoenix back to Milwaukee; he has seen me sober, he never stopped loving me when I wasn't sober, & he's celebrated me staying sober; & Moon has seen me at my absolute worst with my physical health, my absolute best with my mental health, & has never not once been my biggest fan, my best friend, & my baby boy.

Unfortunately,
  • Moon has developed Pododermatitis (Sore Hocks). We brought him to his Vet in January when we noticed the bottom of his right foot had lost a patch of fur & was scabby.
  • During his first recheck, while no improvement had been made on his right foot, it was now noticed that the bottom of his left foot had also lost a patch of fur & was becoming dry, flaky, & red.
  • During Moon's most recent recheck (03.21), it was determined, due to the severity of the condition of his right foot, medication changes & additions were going to be made (both oral & topical), holistic therapy was to begin, & "rabbit socks" needed to be ordered.
  • This is not cheap; medical bills never are.

It would be inhumane to not get him treatment, as if his condition continues to worsen, the bone, tendons, &/or bloodstream could become infected, resulting in a painful death. It would also be "selfish" (financially) to euthanize him when he is extremely healthy otherwise & still has an amazing quality of life.

In the 2 months we have been treating Moon so far, we've already spent close to $900. And with the addition of multiple daily medications/prescriptions, twice weekly laser treatments, & twice monthly recheck appointments- the next 2 months (treatment will more likely than not continue beyond this time) will more than triple that amount.

It's not for me; it's for Moon. He's already had a toe amputated some years back, so please help him not lose a whole foot!

If you are in a position to do so & would like to donate, your generosity would be beyond words.

With love to the moon & back x infinity + 1,
Martha Jean & Moon Boots
