Help Save Mom: A Story of Hope and Determination

Hello,

My name is Alok, and I find myself in a situation I never imagined I would face. I'm a dedicated researcher at Umass Chan Medical School, but right now, my primary role is that of a caregiver to my 62-year-old mother. Recently, she experienced a sudden hypoglycemic shock, leaving her in a vegetative state where she can only communicate through blinking her eyes and some involuntary movements.

Doctors have assured me that she's not brain dead and there's hope for her recovery, but it's going to be a long road ahead. She's currently in the ICU, relying on oxygen support, and the medical bills are piling up faster than I can manage. Despite extensive testing, the doctors haven't been able to pinpoint the exact cause of her condition. CT scans, MRIs, and even CSF tests for infections have all come back inconclusive. She is admitted in a public hospital in India. Any suggestions from individuals/Doctors/clinicians with a background in neurology regarding diagnostics for the underlying cause or treatment would be greatly appreciated.

As a post-doctoral fellow, my income is modest, and I've already depleted my savings and taken on loans to cover the mounting expenses. But I refuse to give up on my mother. I believe that with proper medical care, she stands a fighting chance at recovery.

This is where I humbly ask for your help. Your support, no matter how small, could make a world of difference in keeping my mother in the ICU for as long as it takes for her to heal. The doctors are cautiously optimistic about her prognosis, but they can't predict how long her recovery might take.
