This is Bates. He’s a four year old Maine Coon mix who likes to sleep and cuddle, with breaks for eating, but then right back to sleeping and cuddling. He hasn’t been feeling well for a few weeks so I brought him to his vet last week. Within a few days they diagnosed him with hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver syndrome), a frequently diagnosed ailment which can severely impair the health and proper functioning of a cat’s liver and, if not promptly reversed, can be fatal. This condition occurs when triglycerides accumulate within the liver cells and obstruct the organ’s function. the good news is that it’s entirely reversible if caught early and treated aggressively.
For the last several days, I have been trying to reverse the situation myself with hand feedings, IV fluids, pain meds, and various other meds, but he has not improved enough on his own. The vet discussed that next steps would be to take him to emergency for a surgical feeding tube and hospitalization.
unfortunately I am not in a financial situation to cover these costs as I have already reached my limit with the preliminary diagnostics. If you have anything to give, we would appreciate it. He’s a young cat who has every chance of recovering with the right care. I have put the goal at the top range of prices with feeding tube, hospitalization, and follow up care, including labs.
Thank you for your time and care!
