Milou's Walking Fund

If you think you've met every frenchie there ever was to meet, let me take some time to tell you about Milou.

Milou is our 2 year-old french bulldog and he is convinced he is a big dog in a 25lb dog body.

He LOVES people and he LOVES other dogs. He loves playing fetch and tug. He gives the best cuddles, he is the best sitter, hand-shaker, dancer, and stayer this side of Brooklyn. There isn't a mean bone in Milou's body. He even loves cats! In fact, since he was raised with three cats, he actually thinks his mom is a cat named Ivy Bean.
But above anything else, Milou loves to run. From the minute this dog wakes up, to the minute he goes to bed, he is on the move. Whether it's chasing the cats at home, or playing tag in a dog park, this boy would be happy as long as he could chase or be chased.

Then, out of nowhere, Milou suddenly lost interest in running and playing. His body would stiffen when touched, and his entire happy, friendly demeanor, changed to depressed, stagnant, and lifeless.

We took Milou to the vet and found out that he had a spinal injury likely resulting from IVDD. Despite at home treatment as prescribed by our vet, Milou's condition has worsened over time. He can no longer stand, sit, lay, eat, or even sleep without being in excruciating pain. We needed to start hand feeding him because he could no longer raise his head to eat.

Despite all of this, our vet told us Milou was not a candidate for surgery because he still was able to walk, albeit wobbly. Finally, Milou began screaming one night at 3AM. We rushed him to the ER to find out his condition was worsening. He was losing function of his back right leg, and as a result, his left leg has developed a knee joint issue. Pain medication wasn't working. Strict crate rest wasn't working.

We have been to multiple doctors, received multiple opinions, tried various treatments, all to no avail. We are taking him to see a neurologist to determine if surgery is the right option for him. Despite his comprehensive pet health insurance, we're still looking at thousands of dollars for his medical care, and he is still not better.

It's easy for people to say they love their dogs, but for me....Milou has on multiple occasions saved my life. We are just asking for some help to do the same for him. I want him to be able to run again. I want to see him play with his friends again. But above all, I just want his pain to stop. In order to do that, we must keep taking Milou to specialists until they can figure out how to stop his pain while saving his spine.

All the money raised will go directly to paying for his ongoing medical care and rehab. Any funds that remain will be directed to a local animal shelter here in Brooklyn.

From us and Milou, thank you all for the support. If you want to keep updated on Milou's progress, we will be updating his instagram account @miloumeetsworld.
