Help Save Marshmallow: Urgent Surgery Needed

Marshmallow is a 2 month old street dog who lives in Moalboal, Philippines.

Unfortunately, she was run over by a motorbike 2 weeks ago, which left her with a broken pelvis, a bacterial infection, and a hernia in her abdominal cavity through which her internal organs are protruding.

In her current state, she needs additional veterinary care which is extremely pricey. The cost of additional exams and surgery is estimated at around $1500.

The purpose of this fundraiser is to fund a lifesaving surgery for her, including travel to an animal hospital in the island’s provincial capital—Cebu City.

Marshmallow has been fighting to survive since her accident and has bravely regained the ability to walk and play despite a broken pelvis.

After 2 veterinary exams in 2 different cities, Marshmallow is being administered an antibiotic, a pain killer, and a laxative as she has lost the ability to have a bowel movement over the past few days.

As a young puppy, she’s still drinking milk in addition to eating solid food. She lives with her mom outside a house on the main highway that passes through Moalboal.

As Marshmallow approached me in the street clearly suffering and asking for help, I’ve been compelled to bring her for veterinary care and take care of her with the tremendous help of neighbors who also feel for her situation.

If you feel called to donate anything to help save Marshmallow, I would be very grateful.

Any funds that exceed the cost of Marshmallow’s veterinary care will be donated to the local organization Moalboal Animal Welfare, who unfortunately do not have the funding to assist with Marshmallow’s situation at this time.

In the Philippines, street dogs are ubiquitous and referred to as “Aspin” (Asong Pinoy aka Filipino Dog) or “Askal” (Asong Kalye aka Street Dog). These mixed breed street dogs are often discriminated against. Some people care for and rescue them while others hate and/or fear them. A life of desperation and mistreatment can surely turn any dog into a vicious menace.

Although I am hesitant to ask for money online (or in any format) I personally won’t be able to fund the rest of Marshmallow’s care on my own.

I’ve decided to reach out to my network in case we can do something for her through a joint effort.

I know the suffering of a single street dog hardly qualifies as the biggest or most pressing problem in today’s reeling world. Nevertheless, I am doing what I can to help her, including asking for your support here.
