Help Save Marley

Hi, my name is Becca and I'm starting a fundraiser to help with emergency medical bills for my dog Marley.

I was 15 when I adopted 10 month old Marley from a shelter in 2013. We have been together for over a decade and have gone through everything together ever since. Every major life occurrence in my young adult life, I have always had Marley to depend on. Now he needs to depend on me. Anyone who knows me knows how close Marley and I are. He is truly my best friend. Marley was recommended as a service animal to help manage symptoms for severe depression and PTSD. He gave me a reason to live and saved my life multiple times - It's my turn to save his life.

Our lives were turned upside down when he became gravely ill on April 13th. He lost his vision overnight, became abnormally lethargic and appeared to be in severe pain. After taking him to his primary care veterinarian the following Monday, he was referred as an emergency case to the ophthalmology department at UC Davis Veterinary School of Medicine. His initial exam had a diagnosis of primary inflammation and secondary glaucoma, with his eye pressures being 4-5 times the standard level. They started to treat him aggressively, yet symptomatically for glaucoma, but their concern is that there is inflammation somewhere in his body that is causing this. We have ruled out some infections, and liver and kidney diseases, and he will be going back to UC Davis on April 18th for diagnostics relating to lymphoma cancer.

Marley is being administered 7 different medications, some every 2-3 hours. This has caused me to have to call out of school and work several times, and will likely continue this way over the next few weeks or months until we get a formal primary diagnosis and begin treatment for whatever is viciously attacking his immune system. I am truly heartbroken watching Marley suffer in pain and lose his vision. I am feeling incredibly overwhelmed and exhausted from trying to handle administering medication, talking to vets and making appointments, driving 2 hours round trip to Davis 4-5 times a week and paying for all of this treatment - all while balancing work and college full-time, and all on my own. I am asking with my full heart if Marley or our story has ever touched you, please help by lessening the financial burden that is taking a toll on us. Please help me save Marley.

The funds will be used to pay for Marley's exams, medications, diagnostics and treatments moving forward. Some of the funds may be used to take time off of work to care for Marley, bring him to vet appointments and administer his medications. All of the funds will go directly to Marley's care.
