My name is Rowena Roque, and I am writing as the sister of Marites Pensotes, 53 years old—a loving wife and mother who is fighting for her life.

Marites has been diagnosed with Ventricular Tachycardia, a serious and life-threatening heart condition. Because of this, she has been hospitalized almost every month, sometimes twice a month. She frequently experiences shortness of breath, suddenly loses consciousness, and collapses without warning.

Just a few weeks ago, our family went through the most terrifying moment of our lives—her heart stopped, and she had to be resuscitated. We truly thought we were going to lose her. Her children almost lost their mother.

Doctors have urgently recommended Radiofrequency Ablation with 3D Mapping, a procedure that can correct her abnormal heart rhythm and prevent another cardiac arrest. This life-saving treatment is available at the Philippine Heart Center, but the estimated cost is PHP 700,000.

As her family, we have been doing everything we can. I have been financially helping my sister and her family, along with other relatives. However, because Marites is constantly in and out of the hospital, all of her family’s savings have been wiped out, and what we can contribute as a family is no longer enough—especially since her treatment cannot wait any longer.

In the Philippines, especially in private hospitals, medical care is extremely expensive. We also sought help from public hospitals near our home in Bulacan, but they do not have the equipment or specialists needed to manage her condition safely.

Most heartbreaking of all is that time is not on our side. We cannot wait months or years to save for this treatment. Every delay puts Marites at risk of another cardiac arrest—one she may not survive. Her children live in constant fear that each hospital visit could be the last.

As her sister, it is painful to watch her suffer knowing that a life-saving treatment exists but is financially out of reach. That is why, with humility, we are reaching out to the community for help.
