My roommate and I first met Yuki as a tiny stray kitten back in May. She quickly stole our hearts, and we began feeding her every day. Over time, we noticed her little belly growing and her behavior changing, and we soon realized she was pregnant. At such a young age and a kitty with no home, she was at risk.

We reached out to every shelter we could, but we were met with the same heartbreaking responses: “We’re full” or “There’s nothing we can do.” When we finally got an appointment, the shelter warned us that the kittens would likely not survive in that environment. We couldn’t let that happen. So, we decided to foster Yuki ourselves and give her a safe place to bring her babies into the world.

On Monday night, Yuki gave birth to three beautiful kittens in our bathroom. It’s been an incredible experience watching her care for them, but we can’t keep her in our tiny apartment while putting our other cat at risk. She needs to be vaccinated or tested and this is expensive. There’s been some unexpected costs… food, litter, supplies, and, most importantly, medical care.
