Major's owner Rhonda had taken him out for his nighttime bathroom walk and as she was walking him back into the apartment building, a young man had appeared beside the apartment's garage with 3 dogs and he chose to let go of the leashes and his dog's attacked Major and his mama Rhonda. Major stepped in like any good dog would to protect his owner, but the results were tragic. Rhonda had to go to the ER where she was diagnosed with a concussion and bruising over 20% of her body as well as a hematoma on her hip. Major's injuries were and are considerably worse. He's in a lot of pain and very scared.
His first surgery was $1588 where he woke up with a drain and 18 staples. His second surgery came a week after the attack at a cost of $4679, and another 14 stitches. The second surgery came after Major's injuries were not healing as they should and the flesh started necrotizing around his staples and wounds. Major is known well at Kingston Downtown Animal Hospital where he has been receiving care, but despite everything he's still such a sweet, gentle boy.
As anyone who is a dog person knows, Major means the world to his owners and they will do anything for him, but are retired and not flush with money. If you can help in any way it would be so appreciated.
I work in the building, with older adults and have come to know and love the doggos in the building. Major has always been known as a gentle giant and this situation is just heartbreaking. Some of the older adults in the building asked me to help them with this because they too are horrified that this happened in their own 'backyard'.
