My name is Mahmoud Shahada Al-Madhoon, a 60-year-old displaced man from Gaza. I lost two homes during the war — one in Beit Lahia and another in Rafah. Today, I am living in a fragile tent made of plastic sheets and wood, with no proper shelter, no clean water, and no access to medical care.

During displacement, my family and I were forced to drink contaminated water filled with sand and pollutants. This destroyed one of my kidneys completely. Doctors performed an emergency surgery and placed a tube in my back to drain the damaged kidney. They told me I urgently need a nuclear scan and major surgery outside Gaza to save my remaining kidney — treatment that is unavailable here.

For more than five months, I have been waiting for a medical referral that has not been approved. My health is deteriorating, and I fear losing my only functioning kidney.

I live with my sick wife and our only son, 17 years old, who does everything he can to support us in these unbearable conditions. We struggle not only with illness, but also with hunger and lack of basic necessities.
