Magothy Inn has been a cornerstone of the Pasadena, MD community for nearly 80 years, offering a friendly, affordable place for neighbors from Magothy Beach, Chelsea Beach, and beyond to gather and connect. Since 1988, the current owner, Paul Paesch, and his family have worked tirelessly to maintain the pub’s welcoming atmosphere and uphold its reputation for fun, low-cost experiences.
Over the past three years, Magothy Inn has faced a series of frivolous complaints submitted to the local liquor board, health department, permit department, and zoning commission by a single neighbor. The plaintiff’s efforts seem to be a focused on shutting down the Magothy Inn to benefit the plaintiff’s home valuation. Despite these ongoing challenges, the pub has never been cited by a violation under the current family ownership. However, defending against these repeated claims has forced Paul to spend tens of thousands of dollars on retaining professional support, installing a fence and trees to further limit any sights and sounds, increasing staff, and installing and maintaining equipment to monitor and prove all regulations are being met continuously. Managing through these complaints to county agencies has continued to apply stress on the staff’s job security, the business, and the community it serves.
During this period, Paul and his staff continue to sponsor and organize community support events such as (1) Christmas for Kids, (2) Coats for Winter, (3) various food drives, (4) generous donations to the Magothy Beach Community Association, and (5) in the Spring of 2026, nearby neighbor’s loss of their burned house and loss of a resident.
Funds raised through this campaign will be used exclusively to cover expenses related to defending Magothy Inn against these allegations and public hearings and to implement measures resulting from such filings. I Just as importantly, with every donation and message of support we want to demonstrate to Paul, the Magothy Inn staff, plaintiffs and county agency decision-makers how much Magothy Inn means to Magothy Beach and Chelsea Beach and other Pasadena neighbors. We’re asking for your help to keep Magothy Inn open and thriving for generations to come. Every contribution, big or small, makes a real difference in preserving this beloved neighborhood gathering place and showing Paul, the staff, and hopefully even the local officials that Magothy Inn matters to us all.
